ABOUT THE INTERVIEWEES: Carol and Kate Bradsen are founding members of Restoration Project in Tucson, Arizona.

While on our road trip last year, Sara and I stopped for a few days in Tucson to hang with Carol and Kate and their amazingly beautiful community. It was late in the first leg of out trip and I was completely swamped with work. I remember feeling embarrassingly disconnected. The house had such a tranquil vibe and for the most part I just sat in the guest room in front of my computer. I find that I have to be very intentional if I’m to recognize the sacredness of everyday life. That’s one of the things I love about The Restoration Project; by living together, they are able to help each other recognize and more fully live in that sacredness.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

In what ways have you found everyday life to be sacred?

so good, so inspirational. it seems that in the last few years almost most people i meet share some form of this dream. it is like a deep, universal characteristic of being human. but most of us are to afraid, or annoyed by what seems like a thousand details to work out, that we let is reside as a dream, an ideal.

Missional community. Living together in a foxhole of mission. “It’s like a marriage…” with a commitment to stay in the midst of trouble and problems and tension. A commitment to learn how to love one another, and THEN love the community and the world.

This is somewhat different than the hippie/Christian movement of my day in which we chose to live together in communes (community) for the sake of living cheaply and (often) for the sake of “getting all into each others’ business” as one of the ladies in the video mentioned. That was community for community’s sake. This appears to be community for the sake of mission, which is what I understand the early church to have been.

Craig – thanks for sharing this story. I love the idea of living together in community. I’d love to know how they made this happen? How long have they been living in this setting?

While I know a few houses in town that offer this kind of space, the stories I’ve heard make it sound more like a boarding house than community.

It leaves me wondering what is required of me (you)to be able to live intentionally? Thx

  4. Craig–there are wonderful people on the planet and you find them and blessed us–you SHARE them!!!! Another great message, thank you.
